Grasmere Gingerbread
Grasmere Gingerbread has been made to the same secret recipe for the last 156 years and is baked fresh every day. The company certainly takes freshness very seriously, recommending that you eat your gingerbread as soon as possible after delivery. The ATG team did not find this a problem! Crumbly on the outside, firmer on the inside, it is completely different from mass-produced gingerbread. The centre begins to harden after a day or two but we found five minutes in the oven restored the original consistency as well as bringing out the subtleties of flavour. Although the recipe is secret, we detected a hint of orange which complemented the freshness and warmth of the ginger. Grasmere Gingerbread makes a rich, warming treat at any time of the day. We thoroughly recommend it!
ATG rating: 9/10
